It has nothing to do with maturity. You people in Pound think you have 18 division 1 players every year. You're just like everyone else around here and for the most part, that's middle of the road. One of the Poundians actually said that that LB that you guys have that is pretty good, would be all state 4 years in a row. Pound may have had 2-3 players in the past 5 years that PV,GC,Appy,JIB,or CW would have liked to have had. It's not slagging on the kids, it's a small community and is not a giant talent pool.

The problem was not Jason himself, but more his incompetent assistant coaches. Another of Pound's problems is that Pound is equivalent to a single A school playing in a mostly AA district.(Powell Valley & Wise are 2x the size of Pound and Clintwood & Coeburn are significantly bigger.) Had Pound been in the Cumberland district last year, they very well might have won a district championship. Even the BDD would be a better fit for them.

The Wise/PV 2x argument is used alot, but really doesn't hold water when year in and year out, schools like Norton and Appy (similar to Pound in size) compete and succeed. If the asst coaches are boneheads, then the HC has to take care of the problem. Pound (like Wise) has suffered from a lack of talent in the recent few years. You have to play the hand you are dealt sometimes.

The largest school population referred to above has only 505 students. 200 short of being AA.
Pound is an A school competeing with A schools.

Pound: 264 students.
Kelly: 505
PVHS: 489
Appalachia: 263
Burton: 265
Clintwood: 324
Coeburn: 405
Gate City: 404

Seems to me that most of the schools in the LPD are not larger than Pound. Looks pretty even to me.

I used to have the current enrollment #s for VHSL A schools, but I have lost them. I do remember that there were SEVERAL schools much larger than JJK,PV, and GC.
